Camping around Grenoble

View itinerary

Visiting Grenoble or the surrounding area on a camping trip? The prefecture of Isère, former capital of the Dauphiné, is well worth a visit. Welcome to Portes des Alpes.

Grenoble, gateway to the Alps

Grenoble has an extraordinary geography. The city lies at the start of the Alps, surrounded by the Vercors regional nature park and the Chartreuse and Belledonne mountain ranges. This location makes it a dynamic and strategic place to live, as demonstrated by its status as the prefecture of Isère, its former title as capital of the Province of Dauphiné and the size of its student population.

This status is easily confirmed when you come to Grenoble on a camping holiday and visit the city. On the programme: historical and cultural monuments, green spaces, museums and architectural wonders. To discover all this, take the time to explore some of the city's iconic sites. Take La Bastille, for example, accessible by the famous cable car. This former military bastion is the oldest vestige of the city's past, and offers visitors a splendid panoramic view over the rest of Grenoble.

On the programme: heritage, nature and much more

On the way back down, take a stroll around the city to continue discovering the beauty of Grenoble's architecture and monuments. Take time to admire Notre-Dame cathedral, Saint-Hugues church, the Saint-Laurent footbridge, the Lion fountain, Place Grenelle and the former Palais du Parlement du Dauphiné.

But what makes Grenoble so special is that, in the midst of the hustle and bustle of a metropolis, it boasts a wealth of parks and green spaces. As well as the unmissable Parc Mistral, the city's green lung, you can enjoy a more natural escapade in the Parc des Champs-Élysées, the Jardin de Ville, the Parc de l'île d'Amour, the Jardin des Plantes or on the banks of the Isère.

If you're keen on cultural visits, there are a number of museums that might interest you. These include the Museum of Natural History, the Grenoble Museum and the Isère Resistance and Deportation Museum. All tell part of Grenoble's history and its links with certain important moments in the history of France, the Dauphiné or the evolution of our planet.

Finally, camping in Grenoble and the surrounding area is also an opportunity to visit the Vercors, the Chartreuse Massif, the Belledonne, the Alps and the Isère lakes… Nature offers you plenty of different settings in which to recharge your batteries.
